Parent Involvement: Meeting the Needs of ELL Parents

This article comes for the "TheGarden Island" of Kauai, Hawaii. For those of you who may ask why I would be talking about this, lets remember its part of theUnited States and it is it not only a beautiful place to be, but also because it has the same sorts of problems when it comes to reaching the hardest to involve parents. In this case I am talking about recently arrived families from the Marshall Islands.

Comments from the article include:

"Clement said he doesn't blame the parents for
not being able to help the children. "They probably don't have the
knowledge or abilities to help the kids,".

The article talks about the huge cultural barriers immigrant families face in Hawaii. Some children are shocked with the differences, in school, policies, schoolwork and homework requirements they find in their new schools.
